Reviews for Albert Square & Me: The Actors of EastEnders
“It’s a lovely book. It’s a really great souvenir of all your hard
work and commitment.”
Carolyn Weinstein, EastEnders Company Manager
Albert Square & Me: The Actors of EastEnders, edited by Larry Jaffee
of the Walford Gazette, is a
must for EastEnders fans. The volume consists of interviews Jaffee,
Tim Wilson and dan Abramson
conducted over a seventeen-year period with actors from the famous BBC
soap opera, which
is so highly praised and revered in America. For individuals who never
subscribed to the Walford
Gazette, this volume will be a new-found treasure, and for those who
have, you will now have all
the interviews in one handy location. As one American PBS station
after another drops this expensive
show from their offerings, it is even more crucial that someone like
Larry Jaffee seeks to create
an historical record. It is a fine addition to the personal library of
an EastEnders fanatic (since
Episode #1, on WPBT, Miami) such as myself.

As an ardent fan of the EastEnders (and also born in the East End of
London) I was looking forward
to reading Albert Square & Me, a collection of interviews compiled and
edited by Larry Jaffee
from the Walford Gazette, a newspaper devoted to the long-running
English TV series
Eastenders (also broadcast in the U.S.). Although I had read these
interviews before, some were
many years ago and long forgotten so, from the two Forewords, the
first interview with June
Brown (dot Cotton), to the last interview with derek Martin (Charlie
Slater), and, yes, even the
Epilogue – I was totally hooked. In some instances it brought tears to
my eyes. I felt as if I had
come across a "memoir" of family and friends and was eager to be back
into their lives. If you are
an EastEnders follower you will love it and, if you have never seen
the EastEnders I believe, after
reading the book you would want to be introduced to the series. Enjoy,
as I did Albert Square &
Me: The Actors of EastEnders!

This is a “must have” for any EastEnders fan! Taken from past issues
of the new York-based
Walford Gazette newspaper; readers get an insiders glimpse into the
minds of the actors who bring
their characters to life in a ficticious London borough. Containing 52
exclusive interviews and
photos with both past and present cast members, it is often a
nostalgic trip down memory lane.
Edited by Larry Jaffee (editor of the Walford Gazette); the book spans
EastEnders’ 25-year history
with many of England’s most beloved residents of Albert Square.
