Future Shock
I suppose there are people who can’t resist logging onto Web
sites that let them peek at events a year or more ahead, but I choose to
remain in my cocoon of the present. I find I really have to protect
myself, though.
Leafing through a British magazine, I saw some photos of TV stars
at a big event. Several were from EastEnders, and I was surprised to
find that three out of four were new to me.
Shane Meadows, the U.K. director of the film, A Room for Romeo
Brass, spoke about EastEnders at the Toronto Film Festival last
September. The burly Nottingham bloke, who was thrown out of art
college, drama college and photography college, praised the show and
said EastEnders had inspired his own work. He was, he added, eager to
get back to London to see what the Mitchell brothers were up to.
