Greatest EastEnders Scenes on YouTube
LONDON—While it's not the on-demand complete episodes or DVD boxed
sets that EastEnders fans have long coveted, BBC Worldwide has
uploaded 44 clips have been uploaded to www.YouTube.com, the
Web-basede repository for video material of all types.
The clips are available for free to non-U.K. residents.
Memorable scenes include the Sharon/Mitchell brothers love
triangle, Dirty Den serving Angie divorce papers on Christmas day plus
the classic Frank and Pat seduction scene, and many more favourites
for diehard fans to view in a trip down memory lane.
Simon Danker, BBC Worldwide director of digital media, said:
"These clips are some of the most memorable scenes from EastEnders to
date and are classic moments of a show that audiences around the world
will remember. Our YouTube channel gives us this fantastic opportunity
of sharing a huge collection of first class footage with viewers,
allowing them to relive their favourite EastEnders moments at their
convenience."
The BBC announced a package of partnerships with YouTube in March
2007, including the BBC Worldwide branded entertainment channel. In
July the BBC also launched its long-awaited iPlayer, an online service
that allows British users to download a large portion of the
broadcaster's programming from the past week, Reuters reported. The
iPlayer will offer nearly 70% of the BBC's output, a total of 400
hours of programming that includes episodes of series like EastEnders
and Doctor Who.
The service is only compatible with Windows XP PCs, and does not
allow users to permanently store programs. "Our vision is for BBC
iPlayer to become a universal service available not just over the
Internet, but also on cable and other TV platforms, and eventually on
mobiles and smart handheld devices," said Ashley Highfield, the BBC's
director of future media and technology.
